Fug

(interjection) 1. Proper pronunciation of this fauxfanity is essential, or you could otherwise end up with a red handprint on your cheek.

2. It might be best to use this term as part of another phrase, to avoid that likelihood. Example : “That was freaking fugtastic ! Who knew parakeets were such good drivers?”

Etymology: This euphemism owes its popularity to the writer Norman Mailer. Back in 1948, the publishers of his book The Naked and the Dead weren’t too keen on using real swears—of which there were quite a few—so they made him change the language up a bit, using the word fug instead. But, honestly, the word is a bit fugly to the ears. Couldn’t he have chosen flip or fetch instead?

Variations : flug , flub
